So I thought I should write and tell everybody a little bit more about my internship and what I am actually doing here . . . Like I've said before, I work at a corporate fitness center for a company called Intelsat. (They build satellites and send them up into space!) It is free for all employees to become a member of the fitness center and they are allowed 24/7 access although out staff is not always available at those times. I usually sit at the front desk and welcome people as they check in. I also make sure that we have towels available for the members to use. The fitness center consists of a main room filled with treadmills, free weights, and weight machines. We also have a group exercise room where classes are held daily. I have the opportunity to attend these group exercise classes, so I get to workout and mingle with the people at the same time. The members here are so friendly and they have all gone out of their way to get to know me and make me feel welcome here. They are always cracking jokes and teasing each other which makes for a really fun and laid back atmosphere. There are three other staff employees at the fitness center whom I work with; Elaine, Ali, and Hakeem. They are all really nice and are actually in their mid-twenties, so I don't feel too out of place.
Later in my internship, I will start performing fitness assessments and teaching group exercise classes. My big projects include creating and implementing a six-week weight loss program for the fitness center members, and then also holding a seminar towards the end of July. I am looking forward to learning and gaining experience from these opportunities and projects.
